WHESH empowers women in higher education by connecting them with experienced mentors who provide guidance and resources for leadership and professional growth. Together, we’re shaping a future where women in academia thrive and lead.
WHESH is a dynamic initiative dedicated to fostering growth, development, and empowerment for women in higher education. As part of a British Council-funded project, WHESH is led by a collaboration between York St John University, Kaduna State University, Sheffield Hallam University, and High-Level Women Advocates (HILWA). WHESH is a mentoring scheme aimed at empowering women in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), fostering academic and professional growth in Nigeria. This dedicated mentoring support hub offers guidance, resources, and a network of experienced mentors to help women in HEIs navigate challenges, build confidence, and achieve their goals. By connecting with mentors, mentees gain valuable insights, encouragement, and skills essential for their personal and career development. This platform is a vital tool for cultivating leadership and success in higher education institutions.
At WHESH, we aim to bridge the gap in higher education by providing tailored mentorship and support for women at various stages of their academic and professional journeys with the hope of increasing the number of women in leadership positions within HEI in Nigeria. With the right guidance, we believe women can excel in their chosen fields, overcome challenges, and emerge as leaders who inspire future generations. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where women can thrive, achieve their goals, and make meaningful contributions to the academic community.
